Guyana NRA 150th Anniversary/ West Indies Fullbore Shooting Championship 2017

The Guyana NRA had held its 150th Anniversary in 2017 with tremendous success, from Sunday October 8 to Sunday October 15, 2017.  Led by Fullbore Captain Mahendra Persaud, the rifle team displayed determination and technical skills to overcome the prevailing conditions.  Our National Rifle Team was successful in winning both the Long Range Trophy and the coveted Short Range Trophy on home soil.  This was despite have the pressure of hosting the participating nations.  The support of the government and business community were very evident also and the Guyana NRA expressed its heart felt thank you to them all.  This celebrations was overseen by our President Brig. Patrick West who ensured the Guyana Defence Force was in full support on a daily basis to make the championship successful.

West Indies Fullbore Shooting Championship:

  • Due to the pandemic, the West Indies Fullbore Champion which was slated for Antigua in May 2020 was cancelled.  It was hoped that it would have been held later in 2020 but it was decided not to host it.
  • Jamaica hosted the West Indies Fullbore Championship in 2022 and edged Guyana by one point in the Short Range Team Match.  However, Guyana dominated the Long Range Team Match with a sizable winning margin over their host Jamainca.
  • The West Indies Fullbore Championship was held in Antigua and Barbuda in May 2023.  Guyana won the Short Range Trophy by 21 points.  Other accolades won were: X Class Grand Aggregate- Lennox Braithwaite; Bermuda Shield – Lennox Braithwaite; O-Class Grand Aggregate – Sigmund Douglas; Wogart Trophy – Peter Persaud.  The Guyana NRA won all the major trophies at the Championship.
  • Guyana is slated to host the West Indies Fullbore Championship in October 2024.  Preparation will soon commence for this big event.  The Patron, President Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali is fully behind the hosing and intends for it to be successful.   Teams from the Caribbean, Canada and possible England will be in attendance.
